How to add a captcha to a Telegram group

Stop spam bots at the door: set up a join captcha in your Telegram group in one minute — button or math challenge, time limit, auto-kick and admin approval. Free.

Most spam in Telegram groups comes from bots that join and post links within seconds. A join captcha stops them at the door: every new member has to prove they are human before they can write.

Set it up in one minute

  1. Open @Pibbobot and tap ➕ Add to a group. The admin rights Pibbo needs are pre-selected.
  2. In the bot chat tap ⚙️ Manage my groups and pick your group (or type /settings in the group).
  3. Open 🛡 Join verification and switch it on.

Options

  • Button — one tap, the easiest for real people.
  • Math — a small sum with three tries, harder for bots.
  • Time limit — 60 seconds to 10 minutes. Members who don't pass are removed and can try again later.
  • Admin buttons — approve or kick anyone right from the captcha message.
  • People added by an admin skip the captcha.

Tips

  • Give Pibbo the “Ban users” right, otherwise new members can't be held until they pass.
  • Combine it with the CAS blacklist and flood detection for almost zero spam.
  • Turn on deleting join notices to keep the chat clean.

FAQ

Is the captcha free?
Yes. The join captcha is part of Pibbo's free plan, in as many groups as you like.
What happens if someone doesn't solve it?
They can't write until the time limit, then they are removed from the group. They can join again and retry.
